Today is the second day I am spending here and so far it has been pretty difficult to get settled in.  The parents in my family speak very little to no English so it has been quite difficult to speak to them. My sister Celia and her sister Maria speak very good English and I am very thankful for that. We have been getting along very well so far. the three of us have had some girl talks and hung out together. I brought new foods for them to try such as Swedish fish and pretzels filled with peanut butter. We bonded over those for a while. Both girls love them and I will be sending them more as soon as I get home. The school girls are very nice and try their hardest to help me understand what they are saying and even try to speak English to me. Many people here do speak English which is good. My level of Spanish is very low so I can understand what others are saying but not know the correct grammar to respond. That is why it has been hard for me. I plan to try to translate for myself and learn how to respond as soon as I can. The teachers do ask me questions and I know the answers I just can’t get the words out when I’m thinking about them. For example, the language teacher asked how old I was and I was thinking in my head catorce but the word did not come out of my mouth which made me look like a fool. A lot of people understand I am not fluent and do not know a lot which is very good. Food so far has been very good. The family has made sure I like everything they give me and I do though it is quite different from the food at home of course. Communication with all of my friends and family has been a little difficult but that is okay. I have still had time to facetime both of my parents and even a few friends. I have to say so far the biggest downside is that the dog in the family absolutely hates me. It is a Chihuahua named Chloe and wont stop barking whenever it sees me which is a lot. The other dog Daisy loves me though. Hopefully she begins to like me by the time I leave. Overall I really enjoy this experience so far.
